Pat's Ponderings
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 NKJV
It is so easy to get caught up in our own concerns and problems and overlook folks needing help. Yet, there are people all around us who need our help. Many are embarrassed to ask for it or perhaps don’t know who to ask. Perhaps that is why we are told so many times in the Bible to give help. God understands that many folks are embarrassed to ask for help.
A few weeks ago, a young man visited our church and sat in front of me. After church, I talked with him and since that time we have become friends. He has been a great help to me in fixing things around the house and he, in turn, has been able to earn some money. He has a job and is a hard worker, but it takes a great deal of money to raise four children. We have kept in touch with each other and on a night about a week or so ago, his house caught on fire. At the same time, his wife decided to leave him and went with another man. Between the two of them, they have four children.
He is a fine young man…about the same age as my youngest son. He has come to our church several times. A few people have been friendly to him, but he is in desperate need of help now. Will our church come through and give him the help he needs? If not, what will God think as He looks down and sees this young man in need and no one from our church helping him?
