Pat's Ponderings
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. I Corinthians 15:19 (NKJV)
In my more than 20 years teaching GED classes, I heard many stories of suffering and problems of the students. There were many times that they were more than glad to share with me some of the things they were going through. They were just glad to have someone try to understand. Although they knew that I didn’t completely understand, they really appreciated my trying to do so.
There were times when I would drive home from class trying to hold back the tears from some of the stories. One person told me about how her boyfriend killed her little boy and talked her into letting him blame her. Another person told me about how she had gone to work and left her little child with her mother to care for. When she got home, she found that her mom had been using drugs and let the child climb up on the kitchen stove and get burned. Another student told me how her husband had thrown gasoline over the police and set them on fire when they came to the house to arrest him for something. I could go on and on with more stories, but just telling the stories is not helpful.
What is the answer? A life being lived to please our Lord is what everyone needs. Yet, how many times do we, as Christians, simply go about our lives laughing and looking for more ways to have fun?? It hurts to see so many Christians seem to go about their daily activities with the attitude of “That’s their problem, not mine!”
We have specific instructions from our Lord. We will be held accountable for how we follow those instructions! We certainly can do better than we are presently doing! Shall we try??
